it’s starting to come together a bit more…

after the long holiday weekend of no drawing, I’m finding that I’ve gained a lot more confidence in making my lines.  I’m not really worried so much that my pencil isn’t going to go where I expect it to.  following this tutorial, I was able to knock this one out tonight, Vanellope von Schweetz.

a pretty awesome Youtube channel i found

in my pursuit of learning to draw, i have watched hundreds of how-to videos and have seen some very good ones and some very awful ones.  in my travels through the myriad channels on Youtube i stumbled across the channel of Art ala Carte.  this is a wonderful channel.  she is a very good artist that doesn’t take herself too seriously, and she explains the concepts in her videos in a very easy way that allows you to follow along and not feel that you have absolutely no idea what you are doing!  and she likes to draw cats……

lessons learned today

I really didn’t feel like drawing the apple, but I did.  I know for a fact that I will not improve unless I put pencil on paper with some degree of frequency and I must challenge myself to not to get comfortable with what I am doing…

what I learned today is that I need to take my time and make sure I have proportions correct before getting too committed.  that leave is woefully small in comparison to the source image….
